Since commencing squad programs at Noosa Aquatic Centre in August 2013 , John Rodgers (JR) and Graeme Brewer (Brew) have built a strong team ranging from the 9 year old school swimmer to National level Surf and Stillwater champions.
Noosa’s Iron woman and World board champion Jordan Mercer has developed her swimming enormously in her short time with JR, and teamed with open water champion Cody Grimsey, Olympic triathlon champion Jan Fredino , Australian surf champion Dahlas Rogers, Nick Sloman and Shaylee Finney the squad is bursting with quality swimmers.
JR is renowned in swimming for his success in past years with Bronte Barratt, Kylie Palmer and Leith Brodie, and more recently with the Grimsey boys; Trent breaking the English Channel record and Cody making his mark in open water events. JR recently completed a four year contract with the Canadian Olympic Swim Team preparation for London, and has teamed with Brew, 1980 and 1984 Olympian and successful age-group coach from Sydney, to take on Noosa’s squad programs.
Brew steered Pymble Ladies’ College to 18 school championships between 1984 and 2004, and formed Willoughby Swim Club in 1990, which continues to produce national medallists. International swimmers Matt Dunn, Luke Trickett and paralympian Matt Levy were Brew’s swimmers, and Willoughby’s third place in last year’s NSW Age Championships reflect his depth of age-group swimming expertise.
JR is Head Coach of Noosa Swim Squads and drives the competitive program, challenging athletes through a balance of quality and endurance, Brew is Program Director and works closely with Sally Evans in developing the talent of Noosa’s junior swimmers, focusing on technical skills and training progressions.
Noosa Swim Squads conduct regular time trials at the NAC every second Thursday from 5:30pm, coupled with a BBQ sausage sizzle to generate energy, enthusiasm and camaraderie for competitive swimming in Noosa. All swimmers are welcome to join in, test their speed against the clock, and prepare for upcoming school and club competitions. Noosa swimming Club is open for business!
